Acts 8:26 (HCSB)
"An angel of the Lord spoke to Philip: 'Get up and go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.'"

Acts 8:29
"The Spirit told Philip, 'Go and join that chariot.'"

This is just one of countless examples of God speaking to His people. This is the story of Philip ministering to an Ethiopian. I would encourage you to read this entire story, but what I want to point out is the fact that the Lord sent an angel to speak very clearly to Philip and give him direction. Then in the same story the Holy Spirit speaks directly to Philip, again, giving him clear direction. I find it interesting that God speaks clearly in this story in two different ways.

Why not the same way both times? Sure, God could have spoken to Philip the same way both times, but He chose not to.

Hebrews 1:1 says, "Long ago God spoke to the fathers by the prophets at different times and in different ways."

He is a creative God and likes to do things in different ways. According to the book of Hebrews He was even doing it long ago. I believe that God speaks through His Word and will never, ever contradict His Word. But my question is are we open to other ways He might be trying to speak to us or get our attention? Some ways God speaks are: through His Word (the Bible), by His Holy Spirit, through other people, angels and other ways that grab your attention. He can use anything and anyone. Remember the talking donkey? The question is, are we open to the voice of the Spirit of God in our lives?

I, like many other men, have a super-power. I am able to tune out the world around me in order to focus on whatever is on TV, be it a football game or a movie, I am able to completely focus on it. My wife can talk to me all she wants, I will never hear it. She does not appreciate my super powers as much as I do. We can all be a little like that at times. We have to make ourselves available to listen to the voice of God. Shut out the distractions and open ourselves to what He is speaking to us. I know this, He wants to speak to you. You just have to be open to listen to Him.

Take some time today and ask Him to speak to you and then listen.
